UK-Mexico GREAT Business Awards

Terms and Conditions

The first edition of the UK-Mexico GREAT Business Awards aims to recognise and celebrate UK business achievements in the Mexican market, and Mexico business success in the UK.

These Awards will champion the bilateral values that underpin the Mexican-British economic relationship in five categories: Exporter with Impact, Investor with Impact, Friend of the Planet, Driving Innovation, and Best New Entry.

A judging panel will assess nominations across all five categories during October and November.

The Awards will be announced on December 1st, 2022.

Art 1. The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City, in conjunction with the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, is organising the UK-Mexico GREAT Business Awards. The objective of this event is to celebrate, promote and encourage trade ties between the UK and Mexico.

Art 2. The competition is open to all British and Mexican small, medium and large businesses, regardless of their legal form or size. Businesses must have been in existence for at least two years, and be developing their economic activity in the United Kingdom and Mexico.

Art 3. Calls for candidature and the nomination process will be conducted online via a dedicated website, and the nominations for the Awards will be open from 20th September until 14th October.

Art 4. Upon receipt of nomination submission, the point of contact from the candidate company will be contacted to confirm their eligibility. The organiser reserves the right to deny the right to compete of the participants for not complying with the Terms and Conditions of the Award or for going against legal regulations and good customs.

Art 5. The information shared and communicated by a company will remain confidential and will only be shared with the Jury.

Art 6. The Jury reserves the right to contact the successful candidates at any time to request further information.

Art 7. The Jury, which is independent and impartial, takes its decisions by an absolute majority on the basis of the criteria set out in the nomination file. The Jury’s decisions are final and non-contestable. The members of the Jury and the company or organisation to which they belong may not enter the competition, and they will remain neutral and unbiased in their decision making. The constitution of the Jury is the responsibility of the Commercial Section of the British Embassy in Mexico. In the event of a tie, the Chairperson of the Jury, Commercial Attaché at the British Embassy in Mexico, has the casting vote. All candidates will be informed individually of the outcome of the Jury's deliberations.

Art 8. The event organiser, without prior consultation with participants, will carry out all communication concerning the Awards.

Art 9. The Winners, whether is a Mexican representative, must agree to receive their prize in person and accept that the co-organisers (British Embassy Mexico City and British Chamber of Commerce) promote any content as a result of this.

Art 10. The candidate acknowledges having read these Terms & Conditions and accepts them unreservedly. The candidate undertakes to provide only accurate information to the Jury and, in particular, to avoid any inaccuracies or omissions that could lead to an incorrect judgement. In the event of significant irregularities, the Jury reserves the right to reject the nomination in question or to withdraw the prize already awarded.

Art 11. 11.1. The Commercial Section of the British Embassy in Mexico will use and safeguard any personal information provided in accordance with the terms of the privacy policy.

11.2. Within the framework of the Federal Law for the Protection of Personal Data in Possession of Individuals, the organiser has made its Privacy Notice available to the participants, which they declare to know and agree to comply with.

11.3. The participants and/or winners agree that their corporate and personal images may be used free of charge by The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico for the dissemination of the competition/award, as well as for the promotional activities of such entities in connection with the “UK–MEXICO GREAT BUSINESS AWARDS”. Specifically and for all legal purposes, the participant who submits a project o nominations to the competition described in these Rules and call for entries expressly authorises the The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico to publish it on various social media pages of the The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico in order to promote and inform about the competition through contemporary and widely used channels. In addition to the websites of the above-mentioned entities, the projects may be uploaded to the YouTube channel, on Twitter, Instagram, Flickr and Facebook of the The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico and in publications of other related entities, without any obligation to pay any amount to those participating or appearing therein, Therefore, the contestant, on behalf of all those who appear or have participated in the production of this project or nomination, hereby grants the organising committee, the organising entities or persons and/or those responsible for the organisation of the competition "UK–MEXICO GREAT BUSINESS AWARDS", the most extensive legal settlement in this respect, and does not reserve the right to exercise any action or right in this respect.

Art 12. The organisers cannot be held responsible for any temporary or permanent interruption of the competition for any reason whatsoever. The organiser reserve the right to make changes to these rules as circumstances require, subject to prior notification to the candidates. Candidates shall refrain from making any claim or request for compensation in this respect. The organisers also reserve the right to extend the duration of the competition if necessary, subject to prior notification of the participants.

Art. 13. For the purposes of this call for entries, the natural person(s) or entities submitting their nominations and/or business case will be presumed to be the owner of the economic rights of the author of the nominations as well as any intellectual property rights submitted to the competition. The foregoing is without prejudice to the subsistence of the rights corresponding to the various authors of the nominations, in terms of the provisions of articles 68 and 96 to 99 of the Federal Copyright Law and the applicable articles of the Federal Industrial Property Law. Material produced by third parties must be in the public domain or be used with the express authorisation of the author. In any case, the participant must cite the corresponding source and shall be liable for any claim that may arise in terms of copyright, exonerating the organiser of the Award from any liability.

Art. 14. The dates defined in these Rules may be modified and, in this case, will be informed in due course. Questions not covered by these rules shall be decided by the evaluation committee. Art. 15. 15.1. Acceptance of the rules. By registering, participants accept the content of these rules, and in the registration they must give their consent so that, in the event of winning, the project may be disclosed and may be reproduced and implemented by someone responsible and/or in charge.

15.2. Exclusion of liability. All participants will present their nominations under their own responsibility and will hold the organising institutions harmless from any violation of national and international laws on intellectual property, copyrights or of any other nature.

15.3. Limit on participation. Nominations submitted in the name of or with the participation of the organising institutions or their employees at the time of the closing date of the call may not participate. Likewise, projects that have won a prize or special mention in an issue prior to this competition are not eligible to participate, either in whole or in part.

15.4. Consent to disclosure. Participants agree that the organising institutions may disclose and/or make use of the total content of the winning projects in order to fulfil the purpose of the Competition and for the purposes of exhibition and adoption by other interested parties, without time limitations. This does not release the institutions from their obligation to acknowledge the authorship of the nominations. Nominations that do not receive a prize or special mention will not be disclosed, and their author may resubmit them for participation in subsequent editions of this competition.

15.5. Participation certificate for nominations that do not win a prize. No proof of participation will be awarded to entrants whose nominations do not win a prize or do not receive a special mention.

15.6. Matters not foreseen in the rules. Situations not foreseen in these Rules will be resolved by the Jury, in accordance with their competencies.

15.7. Publication of these Rules. These rules will be published on the official website of the Competition: UK-Mexico GREAT Business Awards and Terms and Conditions, as well as, where appropriate, on the official websites of other organising institutions, and in other media that the Organisers deem appropriate.

 

Consent form

Consent form for video, photography and voice recording

I hereby confirm that I give permission to the British Embassy to capture videos, photographs and/or voice recordings of myself (or the person named above acting as a parent, guardian or caregiver or legal representative of the nominee).

Our nomination will be displayed on various social media pages of The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico to promote and inform about the award through contemporary and widely used media channels. In addition to the websites of the above mentioned entities, the videos may be uploaded on social media channels, such as, YouTube channel, on Twitter, Instagram, Flickr and Facebook of The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico and in publications of other entities that the said embassies deem appropriate to help promote or publicise the competition or the purpose for which such videos, photographs and voice recordings were made.

I authorise the disclosure and transfer of videos, photographs or voice recordings or those of my dependent and as a legal representative of the nominee to The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico.

I have read and understand the above and consent to the use of my videos, photographs and voice recordings as specified for the purpose described above.

I also understand that The Department for International Trade of the British Embassy in Mexico City and the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico shall not pay me or my dependant or the entity I legally represent any royalties, fees or other compensation for such use. I understand that consent to use my, my dependant's or those of the entity that I represent videos, photographs and voice recordings is voluntary.

I am at least 18 years of age, or I am legal representative of the nominee, and I am competent and authorised to enter into contracts on my own behalf or on behalf of the entity I legally represent and I have read this document before signing below and understand its contents, meaning and impact.

What data we collect

The personal data we collect from you includes:

  • questions, queries or feedback you leave, including your email address if you contact GOV.UK
  • your postcode and address if you use a GOV.UK service that includes a postcode or address lookup function (such as the school term and holiday dates service)
  • your email address and subscription preferences when you sign up to our email alerts
  • how you use our emails - for example whether you open them and which links you click on
  • your Internet Protocol (IP) address, and details of which version of web browser you used
  • information on how you use the site, using cookies and page tagging techniques

Where you provide your consent, we use Google Analytics cookies and a Real User Monitoring (RUM) cookie from SpeedCurve to collect information about how you use GOV.UK. This includes IP addresses.

Google Analytics processes information about:

  • the pages you visit on GOV.UK
  • how long you spend on each GOV.UK page
  • how you got to the site
  • what you click on while you’re visiting the site

We also receive the same information from other government digital services.

We make sure you cannot be directly identified by Google Analytics data. We do this by using Google Analytics’ IP address anonymisation feature and by removing any other personal data from the titles or URLs of the pages you visit.

We will not combine analytics information with other data sets in a way that would directly identify who you are.

SpeedCurve RUM software processes anonymised information about:

  • how well the pages performed on your device
  • performance bottlenecks your device experienced
  • JavaScript errors your device encountered

Why we need your data

We collect your personal data in order to:

  • gather feedback to improve our services, for example our email alerts
  • respond to any feedback you send us, if you’ve asked us to
  • send email alerts to users who request them
  • allow you to access government services and make transactions
  • provide you with information about local servicesmonitor use of the site to identify security threats
  • monitor the performance of the site to identify inefficiencies and JavaScript errors

We use the information we collect through Google Analytics and SpeedCurve RUM to see how you use GOV.UK and to see how well the site performs on your device.

We do this to help:

  • make sure GOV.UK is meeting the needs of its users
  • make improvements, for example improving site search
  • make performance improvements, for example improving page load time and data usage

We combine Google Analytics information with similar data from other government digital services to help understand and improve user journeys within GOV.UK and other government digital services.

Our legal basis for processing your data

The legal basis for processing personal data in relation to site security is our legitimate interests, and the legitimate interests of our users, in ensuring the security and integrity of GOV.UK.

The legal basis for processing data collected with Google Analytics and SpeedCurve RUM on GOV.UK and other government digital services is your consent.

The legal basis for processing all other personal data is that it’s necessary:

  • to perform a task in the public interest
  • in the exercise of our functions as a government department

What we do with your data

The data we collect may be shared with other government departments, agencies and public bodies. It may also be shared with our technology suppliers, for example our hosting provider.

We will share your data if we are required to do so by law - for example, by court order, or to prevent fraud or other crime.

The data we collect with Google Analytics cookies is transferred and stored with Google where we analyse it with Google Analytics software (Universal Analytics). We do not allow Google to use or share this data for their own purposes.

We will not:

  • sell or rent your data to third parties
  • share your data with third parties for marketing purposes

How long we keep your data

We will only retain your personal data for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in this document or for as long as the law requires us to.

We will:

  • keep your email data until you unsubscribe
  • keep your feedback data for 2 years
  • delete access log data which contain your IP address after 120 days

Children’s privacy protection

Our services are not designed for, or intentionally targeted at, children 13 years of age or younger. We do not intentionally collect or maintain data about anyone under the age of 13.

Where your data is processed and stored

We design, build and run our systems to make sure that your data is as safe as possible at all stages, both while it’s processed and when it’s stored.

All personal data is stored in the European Economic Area (EEA). Data collected by Google Analytics and SpeedCurve RUM may be transferred outside the EEA for processing.

How we protect your data and keep it secure

We are committed to doing all that we can to keep your data secure. We have set up systems and processes to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure of your data - for example, we protect your data using varying levels of encryption.

We also make sure that any third parties that we deal with keep all personal data they process on our behalf secure.

Your rights

You have the right to request:

  • information about how your personal data is processed
  • a copy of that personal data
  • that anything inaccurate in your personal data is corrected immediately

You can also:

  • raise an objection about how your personal data is processed
  • request that your personal data is erased if there is no longer a justification for it
  • ask that the processing of your personal data is restricted in certain circumstances
